Acceptance, friendship and understanding - Volunteer Mentoring can change lives. SEEKING VOLUNTEER MENTORS. Wesley Aunties and Uncles is a long-term volunteer mentor program that offers children and young people an extra family environment through ‘aunties’ and ‘uncles’ who invest in their lives and provide mentoring, care, and guidance. During their time together, aunts and uncles plan simple activities that help the child learn more about positive social and life skills and create happy childhood memories. ‘Nieces and nephews’ mostly enjoy becoming part of the everyday life of their new family’s life, participating in cooking meals, washing the dog, going for walks or participating in other activities the family does on the weekend. Volunteer Mentors come from all walks of life and may be single or a couple and be with or without children. Volunteering as an Aunt or an Uncle is rich and rewarding work. It requires mentors to open their hearts and home to a child in need for one day a month in the spirit of acceptance, friendship and understanding for both the child and their parent/carers.
